Thanks Bill. The 2nd prototype was given to my cousin Nick at the end of our 2 week trip last June. I think I have this one down to tacks. I am in the process now of making the how-to videos for this and some alcohol stoves. Peace.

Would a smaller stove pipe work and is there a grill in it

  5. RJBURG says:

    oops i mean grate

  6. TerraFirma369 says:

A smaller pipe might work, but 3″ is the smallest size stovepipe at Lowes…lol.
The hardware cloth grill inside is there to insure air getting under the wood for a better burn. Peace.

super stove and nifty vid. since you take it on trips you could put a handle on it. perfect stove for long float trips, looks good too! 5/%

Thanks. I just strap it to my M.O.L.L.E. straps on my pack or other attachment points with bungees. Peace.

Well done great stove but don’t breath in the fumes from the galvanised metal or you’ll get zinc poisoning (It’s like the flu)
    Greta vid 5/5

I hear you on that. It’s why I do the first few burns strictly in an open air, outdoor environment. Once the galvanization and paint burn off, I put 3-4 layers of 1400 degree grill paint on it. Pretty safe fume-wise from there. Very good point made, I should have said something about it in the vid. Thanks for the comment! Peace.

I could use something like that for winter camping. Great design. 5 stars.

Thank you, sir. I will be posting a how-to video on this and many of my other designs very soon. Peace.

I would have utilized two of the 5L mini kegs together just the way you have here; Cutting one down just enough burn area 9-1/4″ in verticle height, which is roughly the height of the mini keg before it is cut. But then it would make it harder to transport on a pistol belt wouldnt it? Its going to have burnt original paint and woodsmoke soot all over it. Question; After initial burn off of original paint and galvanized coating, how do you intend to properly prep the metal for apply stove paint?

  15. TerraFirma369 says:

After the burn-off, I stripped the residue clean with 0 steel wool, then applied high-temp grill paint, 5 layers. I have been using this all winter so far, and have had no problems with paint coming off. See my How-To video on this. Also, Campin’ Wit CoffinPuppet. I used this design for the first time in the field back last May. With the cut-down, the height on mine is roughly 1/2 of the mini-kegs original. Thanks for the comment! Peace.

For a version that I used last year in march that was taller, see my video “Camping with Family in ’08″. Peace.

if you used a 3 inch flue you will get better draw, longer burn time and more heat, there is a formula out there someplace for cubic inches of combustion to diameter of flue… Peace
