Hello, you left a trackback to my site, so I checked your link out.

I like the concept of a duel-fuel (wood or alcohol) stove, and the propane cylinder is probably very durable, however, I think my unican stove and Heineken keg pot combination was the perfect combination of usable, durable and lightweight for backpacking. I am going to put together a heavier model for a boat, and this design may work well.

You mentioned that you don't have any portable and lightweight stoves that are stable enough to support a pot of boiling water. I'd also like to comment that the Supercat stove (made from a cat food can) was a lot more stable than the Unican model (I've posted my blog post link below), but in the end the Unican got to go because it was more efficient. (based on my unscientific test)

Otherwise, this was an informative video.

@catascouts That is purely denatured alcohol as shown behind the hobo. Methylated alcohol I believe in Europe. That is the inverted neck of and aluminum beer bottle, not can. The Heineken draught 5L kegs have an aluminum canister inside of them that would work for a beer bottle relpacement if uyou can't find the aluminum beer bottles. There are many video's on this subject (Budweiser bottle stove). Thanks. I have to go "bid" a tree job.

That flame is really high.
Is it just the beer can and alcohol in it? is there anything else in the design of the burner?

Now that's art! The alcohol stove equals cleanliness unlike the wood hobo stove.
However I adopted the wood version as real 'hobo" will do. I've read on Wikipedia that the hobo stove reached popularity during the great depression - we're passing through another great depression and we're back to basics - ironic and yet meaningful.
Thanks for mentioning about me!

My spoken English is not that good that's why most of my videos are just image and music... I should try to speak out though :-)
