August 28, 2010 Camping Propane Stoves

lightweight stove, great for backpacking and hiking. I’ve used it everywhere from Sea Level to 10500 feet – no problems www.bizwacky.com backpacking.bizwacky.com

yes, the methanol seems to burn much cleaner. though I really like to use a mix of 60% Methhanol (de-natured alchol) and 40% rubbing alcohol (99% though, not the 70%). The longer HC chains in the ISO alcohol seem to burn hotter and you can see them – also, with the mix, you do not get the sooting problem you get with pure ISO aclohol. I do like the Hike-n-light design. Used on many cycle and hiking trips – worked, never let me down. it is a bit large, but everything you need fits in the can.

    What’s the name? Birthday stove? :-) ))
Joke …. Nice idea and effective stand pot.
    Use only denatured alcohol. Bye.

    Where kevlar wick be purchased?

If you can post a vid on Youtube, surely you can Google kevlar wick ;)
Seriously tho, that stove needs some more stability.

You be better off by putting all your matches under stove

Is that even a boil? It’s close, but bubble and boil are different.

  9. bbt95762 says:

it came to a boil. in the video, I think I was using ISO, either 90 or 70% – not very good stuff. Works must better with Methyl Alc

:-) actually not a bad stove. I purchased this one about 5 years ago – I’m not sure if they’re still manufactured. I now prefer the coke can stoves. Thanks for watching.

I like it! A little unstable but nothing that cannot be fixed. Have you thought about a swing out potstand attached to the primer pan? If you do not mind I would like to reproduce this but make a few modifications to the potstand idea, then share them with you after?

I and Greywulf2112 were inspired by this video. We then worked together and came up with our own design even though after some time turned out to be a diffrent design when finished, but still inspired by this video none the less.

  13. bbt95762 says:

I’d love to see your design in action – let me know if you post a video. There’s a small group of us YouTubers who build stoves, and post videos of our work

  14. NCHiker1970 says:

it was just posted, the design is not the same any more but the idea for removable pot stand is still there. Its in my videos and is called the Crumb Catcher Alcohol Stove.

have you ever thought about putting dryer lint or grass or tissue in there

  19. bbt95762 says:

@redheadfisher17 , I don’t think that would work in this type of stove. That would work in a tuna can stove, or gasification stove. But this one operates pretty simply. The alcohol in the inner container gets pressurized by the flamed in the primer ring. Then jet’s out the approximately 9 holes in the lid, which then light, and keep the whole process going, until the fuel is consumed.

  20. redheadfisher17 says:

@bbt95762 as a fire starter so you dont have to use multiple matches

  21. bbt95762 says:

@redheadfisher17 , ahh, good point. I generally bring a small bic lighter and use that – along with some alcohol in the primer tray. In this video, I’d used isopropyl, like 70% I think – which doesn’t perform as well at Mehtyl Alcohol.
